Our board-certified ophthalmologists, Drs. Richard Dennis, Randy Epstein, and Parag Majmudar, completed advanced fellowship training in cornea and external diseases and refractive surgery following their ophthalmology residencies. In addition, they have all received specialized training in anterior segment microsurgery, including “small-incision” cataract surgery and corneal laser surgery. Dr. Douglas Kaplan is a specialist in cataract surgery, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. Complementing the fine surgeons of Chicago Cornea Consultants is a highly-trained surgical team and skilled optometrists who play an integral role in the high-quality vision care we provide.

Richard F. Dennis, M.D. - Ophthalmologist

The president of Chicago Cornea Consultants, Dr. Richard Dennis is a Cambridge, Massachusetts, native who grew up in Glen Ellyn. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from DePauw University in Indiana and received his M.D. from the University of Illinois. Following graduation, Dr. Dennis completed an internship and ophthalmology residency at the Valley Medical Center in Fresno, California, and a subsequent fellowship in cornea-external diseases at the Francis I. Proctor Foundation, University of California at San Francisco Medical Center. During this period, Dr. Dennis also served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon based at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California.

Soon after his stint in the Armed Forces, Dr. Richard Dennis joined the faculty at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center as director of the cornea service. Additionally, he served as director of the residency program from 1983-84. He is currently an assistant professor and senior attending physician in the Department of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Dennis is a prominent member of a variety of professional organizations, including the Chicago Ophthalmological Society (counselor, 1990-91), American Medical Association, Illinois State and Chicago Medical Societies, Illinois Association of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Eye Bank Association of America, and Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation.

Maintaining practices in Chicago and Highland Park for more than 25 years, Dr. Richard Dennis’ specialties include refractive and laser corneal surgery, ocular immunology, Herpes simplex ocular disease, and complications of intraocular lens implants. He is a frequent lecturer on these topics and many others.

Randy J. Epstein, M.D. - Ophthalmologist

Randy Epstein, M.D., is the Chief Executive Officer of Chicago Cornea Consultants. A Chicago native, Dr. Epstein grew up in West Rogers Park and earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in Urbana. He received his Medical Degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed his ophthalmology residency at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center. Following his residency, Dr. Epstein completed fellowships in both ocular immunology and cornea-external diseases and refractive surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, where he was the recipient of the highly-regarded National Research Service Award.

In 1986, Dr. Epstein returned to his Chicago roots to join Dr. Richard Dennis in practice and was soon appointed to the faculty of Rush Medical College. His areas of medical specialty include refractive lens and corneal surgery and the management of complications resulting from these procedures. In addition, Dr. Randy Epstein is actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and numerous ophthalmologists, both nationally and internationally. In addition to being listed numerous times as one of Chicago’s “top doctors” by Chicago Magazine, he has received the Honor Award and, in 2004, the Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Emory University Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Dr. Randy Epstein is a Professor of ophthalmology at Rush University and is a prominent member of a number of professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, Illinois State Medical Society (Ophthalmology Risk Management Sub-Committee Chairman), Chicago Medical Society, Lake County Medical Society, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, International Society of Refractive Surgery (former Committee Chairman), and Illinois Association of Ophthalmology/Chicago Ophthalmological Society (former Annual Program Director).

Dr. Randy Epstein also serves as a consultant to numerous corporations and medical advisory boards, committing his time and efforts to helping shape the evolving world of refractive surgery.

Parag A. Majmudar, M.D. - Ophthalmologist

Parag Majmudar, M.D., is a fellowship-trained corneal and refractive surgery specialist and a vital member of the Chicago Cornea Consultants’ team. Raised primarily in New Jersey, Dr. Majmudar graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, as part of an honors program in medical education. After receiving his degree at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he was a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, Dr. Majmudar completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Chicago, serving as chief resident in the Department of Ophthalmology.

He followed his residency with a subspecialty fellowship in cornea and external diseases and refractive surgery at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago.

An active participant in clinical research activities, Dr. Parag Majmudar is a highly regarded lecturer and instructor on the subjects of corneal and refractive surgery. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Rush University in Chicago, as well as being the former co-director of the Corneal Fellowship at Rush.

Dr. Majmudar is an active member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery as well as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and he recently received the Academy's Achievement Award. He is an International Council Representative from the United States for the International Society of Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Parag Majmudar has private practices in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Chicago, Illinois, and Highland Park, Illinois, where he specializes in laser and non-laser vision correction procedures, cataract surgery, and complications stemming from refractive surgery.

Douglas S. Kaplan, M.D. - Ophthalmologist

Douglas Kaplan, M.D., is a comprehensive board-certified ophthalmologist and a Chicago native. Raised on the North Shore, he graduated from Highland Park High School and attended the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors and Distinction in Zoology. Returning to Chicago, Dr. Kaplan received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School and completed his internship at Lutheran General Hospital. After performing his residency in ophthalmology at Michael Reese/University of Chicago, he settled in Rockford, Illinois, practicing at Rockford Clinic for 10 years. He returned to Highland Park in April 2001 to join Chicago Cornea Consultants. He is a member of the Medical School faculties at Northwestern University Medical Center and Rush University Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Kaplan has recently been elected to the position of President-elect of the Lake County Medical Society.

Dr. Kaplan is very active in the medical community, serving in a variety of functions including:

  • Medical Review Committee, Lake County Medical Society
  • Alternate delegate, Illinois State Medical Society

He is also a member of several prestigious medical organizations, including the Illinois Association of Ophthalmology, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, Illinois State Medical Society, and Lake County Medical Society.

Dr. Kaplan has dedicated his professional career to bringing the finest quality eye care to his patients, including general ophthalmology and “small-incision” cataract surgery. He is also highly proficient in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and wrinkle reduction with BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. Residing in Deerfield with his wife and three children, he enjoys time with his family, sports activities, and Chicago’s many cultural activities.

Maria E. Rosselson, M.D. - Ophthalmologist

Maria Rosselson grew up in the West Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago before moving to Buffalo Grove, Illinois, where she graduated from Stevenson High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, double-majoring in Psychology and Spanish Language. She received her M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago. She completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the St. Louis University Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri, and her Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, where she was trained as a comprehensive ophthalmologist.

Dr. Rosselson has a particular interest in glaucoma diagnosis and treatment, as well as cataract/anterior segment surgery. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Rosselson is fluent in both Russian and Spanish. In her spare time she enjoys cooking with her husband Ben, an Emergency Medicine physician, as well as running, visiting art galleries, reading fiction, and world travel.

Charles A. Faron, O.D. - Optometrist

Dr. Charles Faron is a Chicago native. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and graduated with honors from the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO). He completed his residency training at North Chicago Veteran’s Administration Hospital. He then served as an associate Professor of optometry at ICO. He has lectured extensively on subjects including ocular inflammation, neurological eye disease, and contact lens care. His main areas of professional interest are primary eye care on specialty contact lenses for patients who have undergone corneal transplants and refractive surgery, as well as patients with keratoconus. He is a member of the Illinois Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Faron resides in Downers Grove. He enjoys traveling, reading, and music. He is actively involved in the clinical training of Optometry Students form the Illinois College of Optometry.

Marsha Malooley, O.D. - Optometrist

Marsha Malooley, O.D., an Illinois native from Spring Valley, received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

She studied optometry at the New England College of Optometry in Boston. Following graduation, she completed a residency at the Illinois College of Optometry specializing in corneal diseases and contact lenses. As a contact lens specialist, Dr. Malooley is experienced in fitting both rigid gas permeable and soft lenses for patients with post-surgical, keratoconic, bifocal, or otherwise difficult-to-fit prescriptions. In addition, she is CRT trained, a procedure in which a contact lens worn overnight reshapes the cornea allowing clear vision during the day without the use of glasses or contact lenses.

As a member of the Illinois Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association Contact Lens Society, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Dr. Malooley is active within the optometric community. She is very passionate about caring for her patients and is dedicated to her professional career. Dr. Malooley is actively involved in training Optometry students and serves as an adjust Assistant Professor of Optometry of the Illinois College of Optometry in the Department of Community Based Education.

In her spare time, Dr. Malooley is an avid sportswoman and enjoys volleyball, golf, playing the violin, and cooking.
