LASIK Technology Chicago
The doctors at Chicago Cornea Consultants, Ltd. offer two of the world's most advanced excimer lasers for LASIK vision correction: Zyoptix and the VISX Star S4. In addition, Chicago Cornea Consultants, Ltd. utilizes the Intralase laser, Allegretto Wavelight, and more!
Taking LASIK to a whole new level, Zyoptix is the very latest development in laser vision correction from Bausch and Lomb.
Much like your fingerprint, your eyes are also individually unique; with unique characteristics come unique visual flaws. Zyoptix combines the Zywave and laser technologies to form a customized LASIK treatment that's specifically designed to treat these microscopic visual errors. The result is a more precise treatment than conventional LASIK and outstanding visual acuity.
The Zyoptix is designed specifically for the LASIK procedure, utilizing the innovative"dancing light" technology to provide world-class LASIK results.
Using a narrow 2 mm beam, the Zyoptix literally dances across the cornea, with a rapid pulse pattern that quickly and safely achieves the desired correction. The beam then smoothes the corrected area into the rest of the cornea, giving it a more natural shape for better visual acuity. Plus, the Zyoptix offers an extra-wide treatment zone, which reduces the potential for glare and halos during low light conditions or at night.
According to a clinical study, over 99 percent of patients who have their LASIK procedures performed on the Zyoptix achieve 20/40 vision or better. It's results like this that make the Zyoptix an easy choice for the doctors of Chicago Cornea Consultants.
Other benefits of Zyoptix over standard LASIK include:
- Improved Night Vision: In clinical studies, Zyoptix patients had fewer problems with night driving vision than did patients who had conventional LASIK.
- In-depth Diagnostics: Each Zyoptix assessment involves an additional diagnostic (screening) process utilizing the Orbscan/Zywave system to help the surgeon develop your personalized treatment plan and to further ensure a superior outcome.
- Exceptional Results: With more than 100,000 custom eye treatments worldwide and virtually zero dissatisfied patients, Bausch Lomb Zyoptix stands head and shoulders above other conventional lasers for delivering crisper, clearer vision with less dependency on eyeglasses or contacts.
Chicago Cornea Consultants is pleased to introduce Advanced Control Eyetracking (ACE) for all of our LASIK patients. We are among the first practices to receive this upgrade. The new eye tracker presents many benefits to our patients and makes LASIK safer than ever before.
Eyetracking allows lasers used during LASIK surgery to compensate for eye movements during the procedure, thus adding an important level of assurance. However, no eyetracker has been able to adjust for subtle rotations of the eye that occur during the laser treatment – that is until now!
This new eyetracker locks on to the eye's unique iris pattern just before the laser treatment begins, and then monitors the pattern throughout the procedure. When rotation of the iris is detected during the treatment the direction of the laser pulses is instantaneously adjusted accordingly. No other laser in the U.S. does this. This ensures that each laser pulse is delivered to its intended location on the cornea. ACE also adjusts for the pupil center shifting that can occur between light and dark settings, critical to the proper centering of customized LASIK treatments over the pupil.
What does this mean to youadded assurance that your patients are receiving the safest and most accurate procedure possible.

Using the most advanced technology available, Bausch Lomb's Technolas 217z is the world's leading excimer laser. Its innovative"flying spot" technology produces an extremely smooth corneal surface.
Unlike current standard lasers, the Technolas 217z uses a state-of-the-art feedback mechanism that makes sure every pulse is placed exactly as prescribed. And the Technolas 217z is the only laser specifically designed ergonomically for LASIK, which means greater comfort for you and greater flexibility for your surgeon. VISX Star S4 IR Excimer Laser
Chicago Cornea Consultants, Ltd. is proud to also offer the VISX Star S4 IR Excimer Laser for LASIK vision correction procedures. The innovative ActiveTrak technology allows monitoring of eye movement in all three dimensions without pupil dilation, which means more precise control for the doctor and less stress for the patient.
Variable Spot Beam technology gives the doctor greater flexibility, with seven separate beams ranging from 0.65 to 6.5 millimeters in size providing faster, smoother treatment and highly accurate corneal shaping. Plus, VSS (Variable Spot Scanning) technology adds a blend zone that helps smooth the cornea, increasing the ablation (treatment) zone by 51 percent. This transition provides a gradual change from the treatment area to the non-treated corner, resulting in clearer, sharper vision, especially in low light conditions. The doctors of Chicago Cornea Consultants, Ltd. also utilize the Alcon Allegretto Wavelight laser system.
As with any medical procedure, the experience and skill of your surgeon will influence your outcomes. Drs. Randy Epstein and Parag Majmudar are board-certified ophthalmologists with advanced fellowship training specifically in corneal surgery. This is important, as the fine vision adjustments made during LASIK are possible by training the laser on the cornea of your eye. As corneal specialists who have performed thousands of LASIK procedures, you can trust in the experience and technology of Chicago Cornea Consultants, Ltd. to give you the best possible results for your vision correction procedure.
Did you know that your vision is as unique as your own individual fingerprint? If your vision is unique to you, doesn't it make sense that your LASIK procedure should be unique to you as well? The doctors at Chicago Cornea Consultants, Ltd. think so! That is why they utilize Allegretto Wavelight technology to custom-design your very own LASIK treatment.
Allegretto Wavelight is completely customized to your eyes and your eyes alone. In as little as a few minutes, you can have the clear vision you desire. If you want to learn more about Allegretto Wavelight and the exciting things it can do for your vision, contact Chicago Cornea Consultants today!
