The doctors, along with many members of the staff of Chicago Cornea Consultants™, attended the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and American Academy of Ophthalmic Executves (AAOE) annual meeting at McCormick Place over the past weekeend. At this key gathering, ophthalmologists and allied professionals, along with representatives of industry, meet to learn and explore the latest developments in clinical science, surgical techniques, and diagnostic and treatment technologies. We attended Subspecialty Day presentations in the areas of Cornea, Refractive Surgery, Glaucoma and Uveitis, along with symposia on a variety of topics, from blepharoplasty and intraocular lens implant complications, to optimzing patient office experience and addressing cataract surgery concerns in patients post refractive surgery. Dr Majmudar was a moderator in a panel on PRK and LASEK techniques and presented an e-poster on corneal crosslinking in patients after refractive keratotomy. Dr Epstein was a lab instructor for the Academy “Hands-on” course “Astigmatism in the Cataract Patient”, and gave a lecture at the Alcon Labs, Inc. booth, entitled “Multifocal IOL’s: Setting expectations for presbyopic patients”. He also attended the Editorial Board Meeting for the journal “Cornea”, the annual luncheon of the Heed Ophthalmic Society, the annual meeting of the “CXL Study Group”, the Wavetech ORA “User’s Group” meeting, as well as the annual meeting of the Cornea Society. Dr Epstein completed a special course and was certified as a “proctor” for the AMO Intralase laser.

The meeting was a great experience for all of us and we look forward to incorporating insights gained into our practices.
