Dr. Parag A. Majmudar, a corneal specialist at Chicago Cornea Consultants lectured at the “Surface Ablation, Femto-Lasers and Cross-Linking Congress, 2010″. This international meeting, held on April 10th in Weston Florida, was attended by the top Ophthalmologists. Peer discussions at the conference aid to further improve procedure techniques worldwide. It is an honor to be invited to be a speaker as well as extremely beneficial to attend.
Parag A. Majmudar, MD, is a respected Chicagoland Corneal Specialist and LASIK surgeon, senior partner of Chicago Cornea Consultants and Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. At the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting, San Francisco, CA, October 2009, he participated as Invited Faculty at the “Cornea and Anterior Segment Disasters: Bringing them back from the Precipice” meeting, and Invited Instructor for the “Lasik Course”.
Dr. Majmudar also acted as Chairman, Refractive Surgery Subcommittee, American Academy of Ophthalmology, 2009 and a member of the Annual Meeting Program Committee, February 2009. He is a member of the American Society of Cataract Refractive Surgery’s Refractive Surgery Clinical Committee. He also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Refractive Surgery, Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today and Ocular Surgery News.
Dr. Majmudar is a Fellowship trained in Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery who is invited to lecture both nationally and internationally. He is one of 4 international surgeons to be invited to the Annual Meeting of the Refractive Implant and IOL Society to be held in Agra, India in December 2009. He was was one of the first surgeons in the United States to perform the Veriflex phakic implant (used for high myopes that cannot have LASIK), and helped pioneer the use of MMC for the prevention and treatment of corneal scarring in association with certain refractive surgical procedures. He recently co-authored an article entitled “Reduced Application Time for Prophylactic Mitomycin-C in Photorefractive Keratectomy” which will be published in Ophthalmology, 2010.
Chicago Corneal Expert and LASIK surgeon Randy J. Epstein, MD, CEO of Chicago Cornea Consultants participated in 6 presentations at this years worldwide meeting. These included 3 original lectures, one panel discussion, and 2 instructional courses. Titles included a “Breakfast with the Experts” presentation entitled “Mitomycin-C (MMC): When and how to use it”, and a lecture entitled “MMC for the prevention of corneal haze following Refractive Surgery”, in a course directed by Stephen Lane, MD., entitled “Risk factors, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Refractive Surgical Complications”. In addition, he was co-author of a paper entitled “Acanthamoeba endopthalmitis following penetrating keratoplasty for Acanthamoeba keratitis”, which was presented at the pre-AAO Ocular Microbilogy and Immunology Group (OMIG) meeting. He was a panelist for the “Refractive Surgery Original Papers” session moderated by Dr. Sonia Yoo, and a lab instructor for a course directed by Dr. Louis “Skip” Nichamin, entitled “Management of Astigmatism in the Cataract Patient”. Finally, he presented a talk entitled “How to be spectacularly successful with premium IOL’s” at the Alcon Laboratories education booth.
Dr. Epstein was one of the pioneers in the use of MMC for the prevention and treatment of corneal scarring in association with certain refractive surgical procedures, having co-authored the first article on this topic in human beings.
Drs. Randy J. Epstein and Parag A. Majmudar were honored to present a course on “Refractive Lens Surgery” at the Midwest Eyecare Conference, a large national meeting for eyecare professionals, held at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Rosemont on 5/9/08. They were the only refractive surgeons invited to participate in this meeting.
Drs. Epstein and Majmudar have also been accepted into the “TrustedLASIKSurgeons.com” website. This is a by invitation-only group of nationally recognized LASIK surgeons, selected on the basis of experience and involvement in academic activities. Only a handful of LASIK specialists from each metropolitan area are selected for this honor, which also recognizes the fact that these surgeons use only the latest technology, and offer their patients the full complement of refractive surgery options.
