At Chicago Cornea Consultants™, our doctors take great care to assist our patients in maintaining ocular health. However, many have expressed concerns regarding soft lines and wrinkles around the eyes and other regions of the face.

We have responded by introducing cosmetic procedures like BOTOX® Cosmetic through our Chicago practice. This popular treatment can soften or eliminate fine lines and wrinkles to provide a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. Please contact us today in Highland Park to learn more about how BOTOX® Cosmetic can help you achieve the youthful, rejuvenated facial appearance you desire.

BOTOX® Cosmetic Candidates

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a good treatment option for healthy adults between the ages of 18 and 65 who wish to soften fine lines and wrinkles without undergoing a surgical procedure. BOTOX® Cosmetic is effective in reducing:

  • Crow’s feet (fine lines that develop at the corners of the eyes)
  • Frown lines
  • Furrows on the forehead
  • Creases between the eyes

We do not recommend BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment for patients who are nursing or pregnant. Any patient who would like to soften the skin of the face to achieve a more relaxed and youthful appearance can consult with our doctors to determine if BOTOX® Cosmetic is right for them.

BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment

The treatment procedure for BOTOX® Cosmetic is very simple. The average treatment requires just a few injections at the treatment site and can be completed in about ten minutes. Working around the affected site, our doctors make a series of injections beneath the skin.

These injections serve to temporarily relax facial muscles, thereby softening or eliminating fine lines and wrinkles. The results of BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment typically last about three months. Treatment can be repeated as desired. The best way to determine if BOTOX® Cosmetic is right for you is to request an appointment in our Highland Park office with Dr. Kaplan.

What are The Benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Most patients are very pleased with the results of BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment. An added benefit is that the procedure requires no downtime and has virtually no side effects. Some patients may experience temporary bruising or discomfort at the injection site, but most patients report no side effects following treatment.

What are The Risks of BOTOX® Cosmetic?

The risks involved with undergoing BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment are extremely low. However, a patient will occasionally have an allergic reaction to BOTOX® Cosmetic which may result in a rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing. Any patient who has had an allergic reaction following BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment should not undergo the procedure again.

Traditionally, presbyopia, which happens to all of us as we age, has always meant glasses for clear reading vision. It's a condition not even correctable by laser vision correction. Luckily, there is an option. Refractive lens exchange allows patients a clear alternative to reading glasses and is capable of reducing or eliminating presbyopia by using an advanced multifocal intraocular lens.

Keratoconus describes a cornea that weakens as collagen fibers deteriorate, causing the cornea to adapt a cone-like shape. Keratoconus can cause blurred vision, light sensitivity, glares, and decreased night vision. In its early stages, keratoconus may be treated with the use of prescription glasses or contact lenses. Keratoconus is also one of the most common reasons for corneal transplant, and one of the most successful. It's estimated that a million or more Americans have glaucoma and don't even know it. People with glaucoma often do not experience any symptoms until they begin losing their peripheral vision. One of the scariest things about glaucoma is that it usually has no symptoms in the early stages, earning glaucoma the name "silent thief of sight." Anyone can be at risk, so it's important to have your vision regularly examined.
