To provide the highest quality of care and maintain appointment availability, our practice has established the following guidelines for missed appointments and cancellations.
Policy Applies To:
All patients and administrative staff.
Missed Appointments (No-Shows):
- A "no-show" is defined as any missed appointment without prior notice.
- Patients who miss an appointment without canceling at least 24 hours in advance will be documented as a no-show.
- A $50 fee will be billed directly to the patient for each no-show or late cancellation (at the discretion of the clinic).
- Patients who no-show for post-operative appointments will be contacted on the same day. The treating physician will be notified and determine appropriate follow-up.
- Repeated no-shows may result in dismissal from the practice.
Cancellations:
- If a patient cancels with less than 24 hours’ notice, it will be considered a missed appointment and subject to the $50 fee.
- If you must cancel, please contact us as soon as possible so we may offer the slot to another patient.
- Cancellation messages may be left 24 hours/day, 7 days/week at the appointment desk telephone at (847) 432-6010 or (800) 8-CORNEA.
- Every effort will be made to reschedule the patient at the time of cancellation.
- Missed appointments following a rescheduled cancellation will be treated as a no-show.
Follow-Up Procedure:
- The practice will contact patients who miss appointments to reschedule.
- All contact attempts and missed appointments will be documented in the patient’s chart.
- If repeated contact attempts fail or multiple appointments are missed, a written request to reschedule will be mailed, with a copy retained in the patient record.
